- Blue Acara, Blue Cichlid
[edit] Sexing
- A mature male's anal and dorsal fins are longer than that of a female. Sexing juveniles is tricky.
[edit] Tank compatibility
- Best kept with other similar-sized robust South American Cichlids and medium-sized peaceful Catfish such as Plecos, can get territorial when breeding, but not overly so. Will eat any smaller fish or invertebrates. Do not keep with very aggressive larger Cichlids or other fish with that kind of temperament.

- Will accept most foods including high quality Cichlid pellets as well as shrimp, brine shrimp, small worms and other meaty foods. Avoid high protein foods and feeder fish.

- Feed once to three times a day, this fish has a good appetite.

- Provide a spacious tank with plenty of hiding places. Prefers a sand substrate, any plants must be deep rooted or potted to avoid being pulled up.

- Will be generally fairly peaceful, although a bonded pair who decides to breed will defend their eggs and fry.

- Typical oval south American Cichlid shape. Iridescent blue flecks across the whole body, black dot in the centre of either side of the flanks. Body and fins are tinged with yellow.
