- Difficult to sex, females may be broader in the belly than males.

- Due to its large size and predatory nature, this fish is best kept in a very large species tank, can be kept with its own kind if introduced to the environment at the same time and the fish are of the same size.

- May only take live foods, possible to wean on to other meaty foods such as shrimp or beef heart but this will take time.

- Feed once or twice a day.

- Needs a very large long tank with minimal décor and excellent filtration and aeration. A secure lid is a must.

- A highly aggressive powerful and sleek predatory fish. Hunts in groups.

- One of the largest of the Tetras with a fierce reputation to match. An elongate and sleek fish with large scales and horizontal black bands running the length of the body, the base colour is silver-grey occasionally with a metallic orange or yellow sheen. They have large and sharp teeth visible even when the fish has its mouth closed, these can inflict injury to innocent hands in the tank so this fish must be handled with great care.
