- Mature females are more stocky than males.

- A peaceful fish compatible most other peaceful fish of similar size, smaller fish may be eaten however.

- Will accept most meaty foods including bloodworm, tubifex, small earthworms as well as flake, pellets and sinking tablets.

- A nocturnal catfish so feed just before lights out, however, some Banjos may feed during the day, it depends on their character

- Prefers a fine, soft sandy substrate, with cover in the form of rocks, wood, large plants or leaves

- This fish will bury itself in the substrate, frequently disappearing completely from sight. It may also eat small fish such as Neon Tetras or fry, as well as small shrimp. Can uproot plants so it is best to plant robust ones if any.

- A medium sized brown catfish with a broad flat head and long narrow body, has quite a lumpy head. It is similar to other species of Banjo catfish but this one is smaller than its relatives.
