[edit] Alternative names

Black Banded Leporinus, Banded Leporinus

[edit] Sexing

No visible differences. No records of being bred in captivity.

[edit] Tank compatibility

Although this fish is mostly a herbivore, it grows sharp teeth as it matures and it can inflict nasty injuries on other fish. Keep it with larger or same-sized semi-aggressive fish. This fish is also notorious for fin nipping, so do not keep it with slower long-finned fish such as Angels.

[edit] Diet

Will eat any plants in the aquarium, but tends to not touch java fern. Feed it with blanched vegetables such as spinach and lettuce. Will also accept meaty frozen foods and snails.

[edit] Feeding regime

Twice a day.

[edit] Environment Specifics

A spacious well-filtered tank, with hiding places in rocks and bogwood. Prefers a good current in the tank, they're also known jumpers so make sure the tank has a secure lid.

[edit] Behaviour

A mid-swimmer, spends it's time grazing on algae and searching for fallen food.

[edit] Identification

Mustard to golden yellow to beige base colour with 9-10 vertical black bars. Males have a red throat.
