- Females are fuller bodied when breeding.

- Smaller fish will disappear overnight. Peaceful with fish it can not swallow.

- Commercial flake food, bloodworms, lean meats, and tubifex worms are favourites of the bullhead. In the wild they will eat algae, small fish, molluscs, and insects.

- A coldwater fish, hardy and can survive in outdoor ponds in temperate regions.

- These fish are mainly nocturnal, but may be active during the day.

- Can be mistaken for Ameiurus melas but has 5-8 large saw like teeth on rear of pectoral spine. It is a large fish with several barbels around the mouth. The body is olive-green/brown in colour with a paler belly while the fins are brown.
