[edit] Alternative names

Thomas' Chaetostoma

[edit] Sexing

Male has larger pelvic fins, broader/larger head and slimmer sides.

[edit] Tank compatibility

Peaceful, but can be territorial towards other Plecos. Small fish and fry can be viewed as dinner, keep with mid-swimming fast fish such as larger Tetras.

[edit] Diet

Omnivore, they eat algae, but will readily accept sinking pellets, vegetables and live/frozen food.

[edit] Feeding regime

Feed once or twice a day.

[edit] Environment Specifics

Requires highly oxygenated water. Likes a fine sand substrate with smooth large rocks, some hiding places are beneficial also.

[edit] Behaviour

A generally peaceful Pleco towards tank mates, may be territorial towards other Plecos however.

[edit] Identification

The name C. thomsoni has been misapplied in the hobby for years. It is commonly used in the hobby for a small grey Colombian Chaetostoma with dark edging to its scutes and dark spots on the head and rostrum. There has been a description of a fish with no dark markings. In fact C. thomsoni may in fact belong to the genus Lasiancistrus and not be a Chaetostoma at all.
