[edit] Alternative names
- Thomas' Chaetostoma
[edit] Sexing
- Male has larger pelvic fins, broader/larger head and slimmer sides.
[edit] Tank compatibility
- Peaceful, but can be territorial towards other plecos. Small fish and fry can be viewed as dinner, keep with mid-swimming fast fish such as larger Tetras.
[edit] Diet
- Omnivore, they eat algae, but will readily accept sinking pellets, vegetables and live/frozen food.
[edit] Feeding regime
- Feed once or twice a day.
[edit] Environment Specifics
- Requires highly oxygenated water. Likes a fine sand subtrate with smooth large rocks, some hiding places are beneificial also.
[edit] Behaviour
- A generally peaceful pleco towards tankmates, may be territorial towards other plecos however.
[edit] Identification
- The name C. thomsoni has been misapplied in the hobby for years. It is commonly used in the hobby for a small gray Colombian Chaetostoma with dark edging to its scutes and dark spots on the head and rostrum. There has been a description of a fish with no dark markings. In fact C. thomsoni may in fact belong to the genus Lasiancistrus and not be a Chaetostoma at all.
