[edit] Alternative names
- Bleher's Rainbowfish
[edit] Other Scientific Names
- Chilatherina blehri (spelling error)
[edit] Origin
- Found in Asia, known only from Lake Holmes (Danau Bira) in the lower Mamberamo River system in Irian Jaya, Indonesia[1].
[edit] Sexing
- Mature females will be smaller than mature males. Mature males will have a distinctive longer first dorsal fin which overlaps the second. The males body will become deeper as he ages and his forehead will become more sloped and indented.
[edit] Tank compatibility
- A peaceful shoaling fish, excellent for the larger community tank, keep in groups of 5 or more, with at least 2 females per male. Do not keep with very small fish or fry, nor with aggressive or overly-territorial fish. May eat snails and pose a risk to other inverts.
[edit] Diet
- Will accept most foods including pellets and flake as well as live/frozen food such as bloodworm, tubifex and daphnia.
[edit] Feeding regime
- Feed once or twice a day.
[edit] Environment Specifics
- Requires a laterally spacious well-filtered tank with good water quality. Does well in planted tanks.
[edit] Behaviour
- A peaceful schooling fish that occupies the mid-top section of the tank.
[edit] Identification
- This fish has the distinctive Rainbowfish shape and typical bi-colour on the body. The front half of the body varies from yellow-gold to pale green-blue in colour, while the back half varies from red through pink to orange in colour.
