[edit] Tank compatibility
- Like other Archerfish, a surface feeder, and makes an excellent companion for other brackish fish, such as Scats.
[edit] Diet
- Eats by spitting a jet of water at insects on twigs above the water knocking them into be eaten. However it prefers to jump for crickets so as to take away the chance of another fish taking its meal.
[edit] Feeding regime
- Feed once or twice a day.
[edit] Environment Specifics
- This fish requires a spacious tank with a secure lid. A roomy aquarium with a clear water surface so that the fish can feed easily is best.
[edit] Behaviour
- Like it's relative, Toxotes jaculatrix, it does exhibit the water shooting behaviour, but as said before, prefers jumping.
[edit] Identification
- Often imported with T. jaculatrix, and simply labelled 'archerfish'. The difference between the species is the alternating short bands and spots along the upper region of the flanks, and has a slightly darker overall body appearance.
