[edit] Alternative names
- Chrysonotus Cichlid
[edit] Synonyms
- Cyrtocara chrysonota, Paratilapia chrysonsota, Haplochromis chrysonotus
[edit] Sexing
- Male develops dark blue/black in the face, body and fins and light blue along the dorsal. Some yellow may show on the anal and pelvic fins. Female is silver with three black spots in the body and a yellow caudal fin.
[edit] Tank compatibility
- Keep in Lake Malawi Cichlid set ups only.
[edit] Diet
- Feed a quality Cichlid flake/pellet food, supplement occasionally with frozen brine shrimp, krill and mysis shrimp.
[edit] Feeding regime
- Feed once or twice a day.
[edit] Environment Specifics
- The aquarium should have some rock work but still provide open swimming space both along the bottom and mid-tank region.
[edit] Behaviour
- Typical African Cichlid, should only be kept with other African Cichlids.
[edit] Identification
- See sexing for colouration between males and females. The fish is elongated in shape with a pointed nose and iridescent scales. Not to be mistaken with Copadichromis azureus, the C.chrysonotus male has a white dorsal fin, females are almost impossible to tell apart.
