Sexing

Males have an orange margin on the ventral and anal fins, whereas the female has white.

Tank compatibility

Typical active Danio which should not be kept with shy or slow-moving tank mates. It should be kept in a group of at least 6-8 of its own kind, ideally more females than males. They tend to do best in species only tanks as they can be a bit sensitive, or can be kept with fish from the same region such as Lepidocephalichthys berdmorei or Garra flavatra.

Diet

Should accept most foods including pellets and flake, to be supplemented with live/frozen food like bloodworm or brine shrimp.

Feeding regime

Feed once or twice a day.

Environment Specifics

To get the best out of this fish it should be kept in a very mature densely planted tank with dark substrate. Will also work in a fast flowing river bed biotope set up.

Behaviour

A shoaling fish, there will be one very brightly coloured dominant male, the fish being subservient to him. These fish have been known to fin nip and can also be particularly sensitive and delicate.

Identification

Typical Danio in shape with a pale blue green body with gold flecks on top. A darker lateral line is visible and there is a darker spot on the caudal peduncle and another orange spot behind the gill plates.
