This fish is found around Monrovia, Liberia over southern Côte d'Ivoire to southwestern Ghana in West Africa.

Males are more vibrantly coloured than females and have a distinctive fiery red throat.

This fish will be peaceful towards other peaceful similar-sized fish. Males can be aggressive towards one another however.

Will prefer live/frozen foods like bloodworm and daphnia as well as high quality pellet and flake.

Feed sparingly once or twice a day.

[edit] Environment Specifics

This fish requires a spacious tank which is mature well filtered without too much in the way of current. The tank should not be brightly lit, or at least have floating plants, and the décor should consist of roots and some dense planted with bogwood within which to hide as well as some open swimming space.

This fish is generally peaceful and social towards one another.

[edit] Identification

A slender fish with an upturned pointed snout. The caudal fin is broad, in the males the top and bottom fin spines are elongated. It is pale in colour with some iridescence, with darker borders. The body is pale with yellow and blue iridescence, there are several dark vertical dark bands towards the back end of the fish. The anal fin is yellow in colour with darker borders and a large darker spot.
