Origin

This fish is found throughout the tropical reef regions of the Atlantic Ocean including the Gulf of Mexico, Caribbean, Bahamas and off the coast of Brazil and Ascension Island.

Sexual Differences

There is no easy way to tell the difference between males and females visually.

Tank compatibility

This is a large fish that needs to be the only Angel in the tank. They can be aggressive and dominant so shouldn't be kept with timid or shy fish.

Diet

The French Angel is a omnivore and likes to eat marine algae, mysid shrimp, spirulina, sponges, and other meaty treats.

Feeding regime

Feed once or twice a day.

Environment Specifics

These fish need exceptionally large set ups and they are not reef-safe. A large tank with some open swimming space combined with hiding and grazing amongst live rock is preferred.

Behaviour

A large Angelfish that will be aggressive and territorial towards conspecifics.

Identification

A distinctive large fish that is rounded in shape and laterally depressed. Adults have a body which is grey-blue in colour with rounded fins and the scales on the body have yellow edging. The dorsal and anal fins have long extended filaments. The base of the pectoral fins, around the gills and around the eyes are also bright yellow in colour.
