- A mostly bottom dwelling catfish, it is very intolerant of other fish that share the same tank as it. Known for it's predatory nature and for it's aggresive tendancies.

- Will eat almost anything. In nature it'll eat invertebrates, fish and amphibians, but in the aquarium it will also accpet dry and frozen foods. Be sure to include some meaty foods in their diet, such as thawed out fish meat or beefheart.
[edit] Feeding regime
- Feed until their stomach takes on a round appearance, then only feed again maybe two or three days later. If feeding with dry foods as a staple diet, feed twice to three times daily when young, but less often when older with larger amounts.
[edit] Environment Specifics
- Provide a massive tank with both open swimming areas and some shelter in the form of rocks and wood. Plants, unless properly secured, will be uprooted.

- Extremely unsuitable for any kind of community tank, the Asian Redtail Catfish is best kept as a solitary specimen.
[edit] Identification
- Differs from the South American Redtail Catfish (Phractocephalus hemioliopterus) in colour with the S.A catfish having a white underside extending to the tail from the size, where in the Asian species it does not. The Asian Redtail has red ventral fins, while in the S.A species those fins are black. The South American species also has notable speckling on the head.
- The Asian Redtail can be distinguished from other bagrids by the notably flattened head.
