- Males have more vibrant colouration than females.

- A peaceful shoaling fish, keep in groups of 6 or more. Do not keep with long-finned fish as this Tetra may well fin-nip.

- Will take most foods including pellet and flake as well as live/frozen food such as bloodworm and brine shrimp.

- The aquarium should be well planted on the sides and the background. The substrate should be dark and the light should be dimmed by using some floating plants, to bring out the colours of this fish.

- One of the more oval-shaped Tetras, similar to the Serpae Tetra, this fish has a highly iridescent silver-blue body and the fins are tinged with red.
