Sexing

Males are larger and have longer finnage.

Tank compatibility

This fish is best kept in male/female pairs in a spacious tank. Tank mates should be robust, but not aggressive, similar sized non-Cichlids.

Diet

Prefers a meaty diet of live/frozen food such as brine shrimp and bloodworm but may also take pellets and flake.

Feeding regime

Feed once or twice a day.

Environment Specifics

Should be kept in a minimum of a 48" tank for a pair. They prefer rocky décor consisting of weather-worn boulders and secure caves. They do best in soft acidic water with a medium-low current but can live in harder alkaline water.

Behaviour

A territorial medium-sized unusual Cichlid that forms a strong pair bond.

Identification

An elongated fish with a long pointed dorsal fin, rounded caudal fin and pointed anal fin. The mouth is downwards pointing and the large eyes are set high on the head. The body is silver-blue in colour with faint darker vertical bands and the belly can have yellow hues.
