Pearly Ocellatus

[edit] Other Scientific Names

Lamprologus stappersi

[edit] Sexing

Male is larger and colours are more vibrant than females.

[edit] Tank compatibility

Generally spends time on the substrate, and is not the most active fish.

[edit] Diet

Accepts most meaty foods including cichlid flake and pellet foods, frozen brine shrimp, bloodworm and daphnia.

[edit] Feeding regime

Once or twice a day, making sure not to overfeed.

[edit] Environment Specifics

These are shelldwelling cichlids and should be kept in a well filtered tank decorated with sandy substrate and plenty of empty snail shells.

[edit] Behaviour

Aggressive to other species, especially when on a rich meaty diet of foods like bloodworm. Should be kept in male/female pairs, and you will need a large tank if you want to keep more than one pair, and even then a single male may try to dominate all and kill off subordinate males.

[edit] Identification

These are attractive small cichlids with large mouth and eyes and a broad dorsal fin, they are chocolate brown (varying in shades) in colour with a paler belly with iridescent spots across the body and fins.
