Mbuna, meaning "rockdweller" or "rockfish", is applied to Lake Malawi Cichlids which prefer to live in the crevices of rocky outcrops rather than open water. These cichlids are some of the most colourful freshwater fish for the home aquarium. Mbuna, pronounced with only two syllables, are very aggressive and territorial fish, although they are suitable for beginning fishkeepers who have researched their needs.
