[edit] Alternative names
- Spotted Silver Dollar
[edit] Sexing
- Mature males will have red colouration on the anal fin.
[edit] Tank compatibility
- This fish must be kept in shoals of 6 or more. They are generally peaceful however and do well with similar sized peaceful fish. Aggressive and territorial fish should be avoided, as should other very skittish fish.
[edit] Diet
- An omnivorous fish that leans towards a more vegetarian diet. Feed blanched vegetables such as lettuce, zucchini and cucumber. They will also accept small amounts of meaty foods such as bloodworm and brine shrimp. They should also accept pellet and flake food including spirulina.
[edit] Feeding Regime
- Feed once to three times a day as they are ravenous fish.
[edit] Environment Specifics
- These fish prefer soft acidic water as they originate from the Amazon. Some fish will adapt to other water chemistries. They do not like bright lighting and need a long spacious tank with a secure lid as they can be quite skittish. They are not planted tank safe as they will eat plants.
[edit] Behaviour
- These are very active shoaling fish that are best kept in groups or else they will become very stressed and skittish.
[edit] Identification
- A round laterally compressed fish which is metallic silver in colour, the flanks have darker spots and hints of red colouration.
