Breeding and raising Needle Nose Gars, though highly unlikely and rare, is possible in captivity. Visually sexing these fish, however, is difficult.

An aggressive hunter, must only be kept with other aggressive fish of similar size.

Prefers live food, fish or crustaceans. Can be a fussy eater, and can bite hands that are feeding it!

Needs a spacious long tank, so it does not injure itself if frightened, with minimal decor. Needs a secure, heavy, tight fitting lid as this fish can jump.

An aggressive fish with sharp teeth, will bite the hand that feeds and it will hurt! This fish is capable of turns of great speed and is known for leaping from the water.

A very elongated slender silvery body, a silver band runs horizontally down the fishes side with dark edging. It has a very slender long mouth lined with razor-sharp teeth.
