- Difficult to visually sex. Gravid females may seem more full in the belly.
[edit] Tank compatibility
- A predatory fish which will be a threat to those smaller than itself. Is best kept in shoals of 6 or more with similar sized or larger robust yet peaceful fish such as larger Rainbowfish, Barbs and Danios.

- Should accept most foods including pellet and flake, and is best supplemented with bloodworms, brine shrimp and other small meaty foods.

- Feed once or twice a day.
[edit] Environment Specifics
- Provide this fish with a mature and spacious tank. The tank should have a dark substrate and dense planting (including floating plants) to encourage this fish to be more active and display its best colours. Can tolerate low-end brackish conditions.

- A shoaling fish, more predatory in nature than other Glassfish.
[edit] Identification
- An oval fish with a pale-coloured body which is almost transparent, but not as transparent as its cousin, Parambassis ranga. The body should have some iridescence and the fins are transparent. The dorsal has broad fin rays that give it a "spiky" appearance.

- Glassfish are known to be victims of the fad to have Dyed Fish. These fish traditionally have a transparent or silvery high-sided body with visible skeleton. If they are found with any hint of unnatural looking colour, they have been dyed and should not be purchased.
