- This Piranha is aggressive and is best kept alone in a species tank. In very large tanks larger robust fish could be considered but it would be a risky option.

- This fish won't often accept pellets, feed live/frozen food such as ghost shrimp or small earthworms.

- Feed once or twice a day.
[edit] Environment Specifics
- This fish can be kept in smaller tanks than other species of Piranha, 45-55 US Gallons (170.3-208.2L) should be considered minimum. This tank should be very well filtered and décor should consist of bogwood and rocks. These fish are shy and do not like strong lighting, use floating plants to provide the fish with a shaded tank. They are messy eaters so the tank must be well filtered.

[edit] Identification
- A high-backed, laterally-compressed species of Piranha, one of the smaller species. The back and head are dark grey to olive-green in colour, while the upper half of the body looks dirty white to silvery and shows a few dark spots. Often there is a dark spot on the shoulder. The fins of immature animals are light and transparent. Older fish become almost totally black.
