The West Lothian Aquarist Society meets up once a month at the Craigsfarm Campus, Maree Walk, Craigshill, Livingston, EH54 5BP, UK.


If you keep tropical or coldwater fish and want any information, help and advice please come along. The society has information, talks, education, fish auctions, shows and more.

All welcome from novice to experts.

Cost is £2 per meeting for adults( First Meeting Free ) (children under 16 get in free) with a £10 annual membership.

Usually the 1st Sunday of each month at 1pm unless stated otherwise.

The first meeting of our calendar year and what a start, Jools, AKA Julian Dignall, a resident of Bathgate and who runs the website "PlanetCatfish.com" will be giving us a talk and slide show of his visits to Peru, Venezuela, Brazil and Colombia. The talk is about his experiences collecting aquarium fish in nature and is mostly around his favourite plecos but also several Corydoras and other catfish both common and rare as well as other favourites such as Cichlids (Pikes, Rams, Angelfish, Apistogramma all covered) and Tetras, Knifefish and others found in those regions, so something to look forward to there. There will also be a good amount of time to have a chat and a coffee with him to pick his brains. A raffle and auction will also take place. All welcome.

AGM meeting. Our agm this year will be held at craigsfarm,we will also be setting our syllabus for the coming year, so please come along with all your suggestions. n.b there will not be an auction or raffle at this meeting.

Well this is it. the BBQ. Almondell country park, midcalder. This promises to be a fitting end to our first year, food good company and of course glorious sunshine. :)

The last of our calendar year to be held in craigsfarm. With the event of the year next month. Jack Irish will be giving us some tips on what to look out for when buying fish from a shop, This will be handy especially those going on our weekend shop visits in October. we will of course fit in time for a coffee, raffle and auction.

This month will be the first table show for the society, why not come along and see the range of fish kept by our members? A talk by Bob Granger on keeping Discus will also be on the agenda along with tea/coffee and time for a chat. The usual raffle and auction will end the meeting.

Something different this month, John Reid and Eric Jones will be giving us all the information on judging fish, what standards are used and the main points system that is used when judging fish in a show. A question and answer session, coffee break raffle and auction will also be on the agenda.

Fish Diseases is the topic for this months meeting, Jack Irish will give a talk on the types and cures of common fish diseases. we will have the usual coffee break and chat, raffle and a small auction. a question and answer session will be squeezed into our usual busy schedule.

Following on to our first set of talks on basic fishkeeping this months talk will be provided by Ken Mackenzie on live feeding, this should be very useful information. there will also be time for a chat, coffee and a question and answer session, so if you have any questions regarding fishkeeping come along and see us. An auction and raffle will also be on the agenda.

Due to the late January meeting. Jack Irish will be giving a very interesting talk on how to keep and grow live plants in the aquarium. Hopefully polo shirts will be available for collection. A question and answer session will also be on offer along with tea/coffee raffle and auction. hope to see you there.

Colin Fowlds is going to talk on how to set up an aquarium tank, starting from location in house, furnishing the tank and ending up with a fully functionally aquarium. this is an ideal subject particularly for people new to the hobby.

The second half of this meeting will be taken up by a more social side to the club where people can chat and bring their partners to meet everyone in the club.

Also the usual, Coffee/Tea break, Raffle and small auction (proviso on goods or fish brought along on the day).

Stuart Halliday gives a talk on the Aquarium Wiki.

John Reid gives a demonstration on how to build your own aquarium cheaply from scratch with sheets of glass.

Coffee break and time to chat with each other.

Question and answer session for anyone to ask about an aquarium problem, advice, tips on doing aquarium DIY, saving money, etc.

Raffle and auction at the end. So some bargains to be had.
