tbp or tbsp or tblsp is the level measurement of a liquid or dry powder held on a typical tablespoon.

  • 1 tbp = 15 grams of powder
  • 1 tbp = 15ml of liquid
  • 1 tablespoon = 0.53 fluid ounce
  • 1 tablespoon = 3 teaspoons (tsp)

(These are for the metric tablespoon)

There is a slight variation between the British teaspoon and the American teaspoon.

  • 1 UK tbp = 15ml (metric)
  • 1 US tbp = ~14.76ml

Please note due to the nature of the history of the tablespoon it is not an exact measurement unless it states it is the metric tablespoon. It is often the case that the amount is rounded up to the nearest gram or millilitre.

  • 'Heaped' or 'full' tablespoon amount have no fixed measure and therefore should never be used when gauging chemicals.
