Variable Definition

name

This should be the common name of the fish. Ideally contents should only be letters, numbers, spaces, and quotation marks.

image

Image name that has been uploaded to the site via Upload Form

caption

A short description of the image defined above. This description should ideally just be a few words.

species

Official species name. This should also be the name of the calling page. Technically this should include the full genus and species name.

min_tank_size

This variable should take into account units. You may use the conversion templates found below the edit box to help with this. Template:gal and Template:L

tank_level

This variable has fallen out of overall use. Originally it was intended to be used to indicate if a fish was a surface, mid, or bottom dweller.

size

This should be the max size of the fish. Again you should take into account international units. Please see, Template:cm and Template:in

ph

Simple numbers are used, there is no unit for the pH index. Valid entries are only 0-14, however most fish will not come near these limits. Please try to use simple notation, just ## - ## with little to no text.

temperature

Either in F or C, please use international units. The templates Template:C and Template:F will be helpful.

water_hardness

Simple numbers should be used for this as well. Format ##-##

stocking_ratio

This is the male to female ratio of which the fish should be kept, for example 1 male to 2 females would be written as 1:2

availability

A text entry, common entries are

  • Very common
  • Common
  • Uncommon
  • Rare

diet

Text entry. Most entries are either herbivore, carnivore, or omnivore.

life_span

Text entry. Simple year range to indicate the average life span of the fish.

coloration

Text entry. Indicate general coloration of the fish.
