An Introduction[edit]

When I tell current friends of my previous misconceptions about aquariums the reaction ranges from a lifted eyebrow to pure astonishment. After all, who would have thought that a woman who prepares meals for her fish before feeding herself would have at one point considered aquariums no more than “expensive lamps”. Truth be told, prior to 2007 my experience with home aquaria was that of pale, washed-out fish housed in tanks that ranged from merely dingy to tanks that were smelly, algae caked scum boxes. Then one day in early 2007 a modest sized tank unceremoniously appeared at my house, followed by the request “Can you help me with this?”.

Within weeks I was hooked. A true nerd at heart, the potential complexities of the hobby really drew me in! Due to a tendency to ravenously devour knowledge about any subject of interest, most of my hobbies endure a short shelf life...this is one however that I never seem to run out of avenues to explore. There are few things that I enjoy more than sitting in front of my tanks, and watching the beauty of my happy fish.
