Talk:Manguense Cichlid

There is something ive noticed about manguense cichlids... I have a tank with an almost 9ich jack dempsey, two 4 inch convict cichlids, one 5 inch convict, and now two 1 inch manguenses. I have spent many hours observing the two new manguenses. The first thing i noticed was that that they spend a lot of time with there bodies tilted upward at a 45 degree angle or greater. The result, i believe, has been much.. much.. less attention from the large cichlids (aka: fewer strikes on them, and much fewer frayed fins). I noticed that they are very vigilent, darting at even the slightest motion towards them.. and i believe their vision is improved to 360 degrees when they sit at a 45 degree angle. When they are flat their broad heads, in the gill plate area, apear to protrude to much for them to see behind them well. I also suspect, from observing their angle to be much greater (sometimes vertical) when they are in plants, that just the body angle itself allows them to appear less fishlike.. and more plant-like... stick-like.. etc I have not found any research to confirm this behavior's inate presence in the manguense cichlid or any research on the reasons for the behavior, but i would like to hear what others have observed.. and what they think.

Thanks, Ryan
