Origin[edit]

Asia: Pakistan, India, Nepal and Bangladesh.

Sexing[edit]

Mature males will be more slender, smaller and more colourful than the females.

Tank compatibility[edit]

An active fish best in groups of 5-6 or more. Generally peaceful but should not be kept with slow-moving long-finned fish nor with larger predatory fish.

Diet[edit]

Will accept most foods including pellets and flake as well as bloodworm and brine shrimp.

Feeding regime[edit]

Feed once or twice a day.

Environment specifics[edit]

Must have a laterally spacious tank with ample open swimming room as well as some tall plants in which to hide.

Behaviour[edit]

A very active fish that prefers to be in groups of its own kind.

Identification[edit]

One of the more colourful of the Danios, this fish is high backed with a round belly and a forked caudal fin. The body is yellow in base colour, darker on the belly and in the fins, the top of the back is paler, with blue iridescence flanks with some yellow banding. They are at their most colourful if fed a high quality diet with live foods.
