Common Goldfish

The fish in this category all belong to the same family, Cyprinidae. The fish in this family vary a lot in size and colour, and originate from North America, Africa and Eurasia. There are approximately 2,420 different species in this family, this number changes with new discoveries or classifications.

The largest fish in this family is the Catlocarpio siamensis at approximately 10 ft long, the smallest is Danionella translucida at only 12mm long. The most commonly seen cyprinids in the pet trade include the Goldfish, Tiger Barb, Rainbow Shark and Zebra Danio.
