Origin

Found from Zanzibar to Mozambique and Aldabra, Sychelles, Réunion, Mauritius and Maldives, South Africa (Kwa-Zulu-Natal), Chagos Archipelago, southern Oman, Rodrigues, and Yemen.


Sexing

Protogynous hermaphrodites; females are red, and black with blue spotting. Males are maroon-red with green stripes.


Tank compatibility

Mixes well with peaceful tankmates.

Diet

Reputed as a finicky eater; pellets, as well as live/frozen food will work.


Feeding regime

Feed once or twice a day.


Environment specifics

Keep in a spacious tank with hiding places, as well as open swimming space. The tank should be mature and well filtered.


Behaviour

A peaceful active shoaling fish.


Identification

A protogynous hermaphrodite, where the females are red-black, with blue markings, with males red-black with green markings.
