Identification

An extremely large catfish easily mistaken for Pangasius hypophthalmus when young and can also be sold under the same "Iridescent Shark" common name. They can be differentiated by their dorsal fin, the P. sanitwongsei has a more elongated dorsal fin that finishes at a point, P. hypophthalmus has a shorter, more stumpy and rounded dorsal fin. The caudal tail fin of the 'P. sanitwongsei is also more pointed than P. hypophthalmus.
