Origin[edit]

Endemic to Lake Tanganyika.

Sexing[edit]

These fish are very difficult to sex with no differences colour or size wise. If you are able to see the genital papilla, the male's is pointed while the female's is rounded.

Tank compatibility[edit]

A typical African Cichlid which can be aggressive towards its own species. Will be relatively peaceful towards other African Cichlids. Best kept in a Tanganyikan Cichlid set up.

Diet[edit]

Best fed a mixed high quality diet of both live foods such as brine shrimp and ghost shrimp as well as vegetables such as spirulina and blanched lettuce. Will accept high quality Cichlid pellets.

Feeding regime[edit]

Feed once or twice a day.

Environment specifics[edit]

Requires a spacious well filtered tank with rocky decor. Plenty of caves are essential.

Behaviour[edit]

Can be territorial towards its own species. Can be shy and is generally peaceful towards other fish.

Identification[edit]

The colours of this fish vary greatly depending on where its located in Lake Tanganyika. Its shape stays the same, however, and it has a rounded head, blunt snout and under slung mouth with large eyes. Can be mistaken for Tropheus moorii.
