Origin
- Indo-Pacific: East Africa, including the Mascarene Islands to the Hawaiian, Marquesan, and Tuamoto islands, north to southern Japan, south to Lord Howe Island.
Tank compatibility
- Not reef safe, will pick at soft corals. Is also territorial towards its own kind and similar shaped fish, can only be kept with other similar Surgeons in very large set ups.
Behavior
- An active swimmer and Planktivore that, while generally peaceful, is well capable of killing incompatible tankmates.
