Sexing
- Difficult to visually sex this fish. Mature females may have eggs visible in their bellies when in breeding condition.
Tank compatibility
- This is a peaceful and relatively shy shoaling fish. Should be kept in groups of at least 6 with similar sized peaceful fish such as Dwarf Neon Rainbowfish and Cherry Barbs.
Diet
- Should accept most foods including pellet and flake food as well as live/frozen foods such as brine shrimp.
Feeding regime
- Feed once or twice a day.
Environment specifics
- Requires a mature tank with dark substrate and dense planting, floating plants are beneficial as they do not like bright lighting. It is a true freshwater fish unlike it's cousin, Parambassis ranga.
Behaviour
- A generally peaceful shoaling fish. Males can be territorial and chase one another, but it rarely results in any injuries. A big shoal should avoid any problems.
Identification
- An oval-shaped fish with an almost transparent body with spine and stomach visible. The fins are also transparent. Can be mis-sold as Parambassis ranga.
