- The Rock bass has an relatively peaceful disposition and can be easily out-competed in a tank of aggressors, i.e. those related Centrarchids with genus Lepomis.

- Live foods work best. Worms, grubs, and insects are readily accepted. Rock bass have a large mouth to body size ratio and will feed on smaller fishes given the opportunity. They should avoid being fed feeder fish however.
